Planas i Casals

Located in Badalona, just a two-minute walk from the seafront, the Planas i Casals project transforms two early 20th-century houses into a new residential building of seven homes, where the original architectural heritage coexists with a contemporary, honest and timeless language.

The intervention stems from a desire to preserve the essence of the existing buildings and to highlight the materials that define their identity. The original natural stone façade is restored as the leading feature, while handmade solid brick is left exposed in the entrance hall and stairwells, adding texture, depth and continuity with the building’s history. Inside, natural light, pine wood and exposed composite steel deck slabs shape an architectural language that combines the solidity of traditional materials with a contemporary expression.

Pine wood also takes centre stage in the exterior window and door frames, chosen for their high performance and their ability to bring warmth and a natural feel to the whole. The homes feature materials and fittings designed to ensure comfort and durability, such as parquet flooring, Simon switches and sockets, Vaillant aerothermal systems for heating, cooling and hot water, and kitchens by Meson’s, equipped with Bosch appliances.

The development comprises seven homes, two of which are duplexes with large private terraces. These outdoor spaces strengthen the connection between inside and outside and offer exceptional natural light, with open views of the sea and the mountains.

Planas i Casals is a renovation project that understands architecture as a dialogue between past and present. A project that recovers the identity of a historic building and gives it new life through light, natural materials and a contemporary way of living.
