Context and starting point The project involves a large apartment in the centre of Badalona, in a building dating from the 1970s. The generously sized floor plan retained the compartmentalised layout typical of homes of that era: closed, separate rooms with little connection to one another and limited access to natural light. The project proposes a comprehensive renovation that brings the home up to today’s standards of comfort, efficiency and use.

Intervention strategy The proposal works on two levels: the technical upgrade of the home and its spatial reconfiguration.

Renewal of building services. All services throughout the apartment are fully replaced to ensure safety, performance and durability. This is the groundwork on which the rest of the project is built.

Finishes and material continuity. Floors and interior doors are renewed following a unified approach. Using the same materials throughout the home creates visual continuity, uniformity and a clear reading of the space.

Spatial reconfiguration: kitchen and dining room The main architectural move is the demolition of the wall that separated the kitchen from the dining room. The intervention merges the two rooms into a single open-plan space, wide and with much improved natural light. The floor plan gains visual depth, flexibility of use and a direct connection between the cooking, dining and living areas.

Fittings and furniture Meson’s kitchen. The Meson’s kitchen furniture has been custom-designed for the space, with a refined composition and quality materials, conceived to make a statement without overshadowing the architecture.

Siemens appliances. A selection of high-end Siemens appliances has been incorporated, combining advanced technical performance, efficiency and aesthetic integration into the whole.

San Giacomo built-in wardrobes. The renovation includes San Giacomo built-in wardrobes, designed as elements integrated into the architecture. They optimise storage, keep lines clean and preserve the spaciousness of the rooms.

Result The apartment moves from a compartmentalised layout to an open, bright and flexible floor plan, with renewed services and finishes. The intervention retains the structural soundness of the original building while giving it a contemporary functional programme.
