A century-old home in Badalona’s old town, restored for comfortable living today

Description

ENGLISH

Comprehensive renovation of an early 20th-century apartment in the historic centre of Badalona Façade restoration · Structural reinforcement · Interior renovation

Context and starting point The project is located in the historic centre of Badalona, in a 100 m² apartment within an early 20th-century building. The property retains the construction and compositional character of its time, with valuable original features that needed to be preserved. The project proposes a complete renovation that combines respect for the existing heritage with bringing the home up to today’s standards of comfort, safety and efficiency.

Intervention strategy The proposal works on three fronts: the façade, the structure and the interior of the apartment.

Façade restoration. The façade is restored by recovering its original features and restoring the lime stucco. Using materials compatible with traditional construction ensures the building performs well as a whole, preserves its historic appearance and guarantees its durability.

Structural reinforcement. The floors are rebuilt and the floor slabs reinforced, so that the apartment achieves the load-bearing capacity and safety required for modern residential use, without altering the character of the building.

Renewal of building services. All services in the apartment are completely renewed, upgrading their performance and preparing them for the decades to come.

Finishes and materials The floors are finished in oak parquet, a fine hardwood that brings warmth, visual continuity and a unified reading of the spaces. The original interior doors have been restored, preserving the memory of the home and creating a dialogue with the new finishes. The combination of recovered features and contemporary materials defines the identity of the project.

Fittings and furniture Meson’s kitchen. The Meson’s kitchen furniture is integrated into the home with a refined composition and quality materials, designed to sit comfortably alongside the historic architecture.

Siemens appliances. A selection of high-end Siemens appliances has been incorporated, combining advanced performance, efficiency and aesthetic integration.

San Giacomo built-in wardrobes. The built-in wardrobes, with San Giacomo furniture, provide storage as elements integrated into the architecture, with clean lines that preserve the spaciousness of the rooms.

Views and connection with the surroundings One of the apartment’s greatest assets is its prime location within the old town. From inside, there are views of the churches, the pedestrian streets and the historic inner courtyards of the block, a reading of the urban landscape that connects domestic life with the city and its memory.

Result The apartment recovers its original character while gaining the features of a contemporary home. The façade restoration, structural reinforcement, restoration of original features and quality of the finishes add up to an intervention that preserves the heritage and ensures its continued use.
